CYPRESS, CA - At the annual post-conference women's basketball coaches meeting, the OEC coaches selected the First and Second All-Orange Empire Conference Teams. Cypress' Jessica Barrow, Pressila Blanco, and Sarah Welch earned a spot on their respective teams.
Freshman guard/forward, Jessica Barrow, earned First Team All-OEC and Second Team All-State honors. The Chargers leaned on Barrow to put up big numbers on a nightly basis. She led the team in scoring with 18.3 ppg, which ranked second overall in the OEC. The Sunny Hills alum was a serious threat from the three point line, where she shot just under 35% ranking third in the OEC. Barrow notched eleven 20+ point games and played her best basketball against tough matchups.
Sophmore point guard, Pressila Blanco, used her blazing speed to secure First Team All-OEC. In her second season at Cypress, Blanco became one of the most dominant scorers in the entire conference. The Milikan alum is on fire shooting the basketball, scoring 20+ points in seven of the final eight games this season. Blanco has gotten to the basket at will, and has seemed unstoppable as of late.
Sophmore guard, Sarah Welch, has been the do it all player for Cypress this season. Welch has earned Second Team All-OEC for her gritty effort all over the court. Despite battling injuries, the sophmore has been a threat on the offensive glass all season. Welch is trusted by her coaches to make the right play and it has showed in her progression this season. She has averaged 7 points on 42% shooting per game, to go along with 4 rebounds.
Cypress College women's basketball has earned the #9 seed in the Southern California Regional. They finished the year with a record of (20-6, 9-3 OEC) to earn second place in the OEC. The Charger's will travel to Rio Hondo Friday, February 28, to play in the second round of the playoffs.
