Huge Fourth Quarter Propels No. 17 Chargers Past Pirates
COSTA MESA, CA –The No. 17 Cypress College women’s basketball team (14-5, 2-0 OEC) completed an impressive 72-59 comeback victory on the road over Orange Coast College.

COSTA MESA, CA –The No. 17 Cypress College women's basketball team (14-5, 2-0 OEC) completed an impressive 72-59 comeback victory on the road over Orange Coast College (13-8, 1-2 OEC) on Wednesday night.
Sylvia Garcia led the way for the Chargers with a game-high 24 points, 16 rebounds, and 5 steals. Garcia has notched back-to-back games with at least 20 points and 15 rebounds to begin Orange Empire Conference play. Dominique Culhno finished with 20 points and 4 steals. Joi Bertrand added 10 points to lead the Cypress bench.
The Chargers trailed the Pirates 46-42 at the start of the fourth quarter. However, the fourth quarter belonged to the Chargers as they held Orange Coast without a field goal for over 8 minutes. Cypress went on a 14-5 run to take control of the game powered by Culhno and Alyssa Movchan. Despite early struggles at the foul line, the Chargers knocked down 15-of-17 free throws to close out the game down the stretch.
Women's basketball will return to action in their OEC home opener on Friday, Jan. 13 at 5 p.m. against the Irvine Valley Lasers.
