Two Chargers Commit to Hope International University

CYPRESS, CA- Cypress College men's soccer standouts, Lorenzo La Violette and Matthew Molina, accepted a scholarship offer from NAIA Hope International University. The sophomores are looking forward to teaming up at the next level.

Lorenzo La Violette had this to say about his commitment to Hope International University. "I had a couple really good offers on the table. Some of reasons why I chose HIU were because its proximity to my house. Another reason is financially, my school expenses are being covered. Lastly, the largest reason is Coach Lurker was the most sincere coach out of the programs that recruited me. I am bummed to be leaving the memories and great friends I have made in the athletic department. I am very excited to start a new challenge at HIU and am hoping to do big things as a Royal."

Lorenzo La Violette was the offensive force for the Chargers in 2019. La Violette, led the team with 9 goals and 5 assists totaling 23 points on the season. The forward controlled the offensive tempo for Cypress as he was awarded the captain's arm band and led the Chargers to their (10-5-6) record on the season. Lorenzo closed out the OEC season with the lone goal in a 1-0 victory over Irvine Valley. La Violette will go down in the record books at Cypress as he ranks #7 all time in the single season points record (23). La Violette also ranks #5 all time with his 5 assists in the 2019 campaign.

Cypress defender, Matthew Molina, was the anchor of the Chargers defense. The Charger defense was the strongest in the OEC giving up a league low 22 goals on the season. The Chargers defense was dependent on Molina as they struggled when he was not on the pitch. The Cypress defense had 7 shutouts on the season and gave up a league low 1.02 goals per game this season. Molina will look to bring his defensive intensity to the HIU Royals in the 2020 season.
