The Chargers have struggled offensively so far this season but got off to a quick start against Desert with a goal from Sanson Lopez (11:13) assisted by Sergio Avila. It looked like the Chargers would head into halftime with a 1-0 lead but Christian Nehme scored a late goal (44:56) for the Roadrunners before half to tie the game 1-1.
Cypress dominated the second half of the contest led by freshman Sanson Lopez. Lopez added two more goals to his tally along with an assist to Hawe Yonas (88:55) which put the Roadrunners away 4-1. Lopez is the first men's player this season to score multiple goals in a game for the Chargers and Cypress keeper, Austin Cummins, had his third game of the season with 4 or more saves.
The Chargers will begin Orange Empire Conference play in their home opener against Golden West on Tuesday, September 29 at 3:00 pm.
