PALM DESERT, Calif. - College of the Desert men's soccer surged into halftime in a 1-1 tie, but surrendered three second half goals in a 4-1 loss to Cypress Tuesday afternoon in Palm Desert.
Cypress struck first in the game's 12th minute, and held onto that slim 1-0 lead for nearly the entire half before COD tied the score in the final seconds before the break. Freshman goalkeeper Jorge Sepulveda (Cathedral City, CA/Cathedral City HS) hurried a throw out from his box to freshman midfielder Juan De Miranda (Sao Paolo, Brazil/Onslow College), who then played a nice ball through to freshman forward Christian Nehme (Colorado Springs, CO/Cheyenne Mountain HS) who finished with a nice shot to the lower corner.
The game remained tied into the latter stages of the second half, before three Cypress goals pushed the final advantage to 4-1.
Sepulveda made seven saves in net for COD, whose offense kept pressing the attack with 15 total shots.
College of the Desert (1-6) returns to the field Friday afternoon for a 4 p.m. match against San Diego Mesa.
