Cypress Golf Finishes Second at OEC Championships, Luke Bartram Earns First-Team All-OEC

Whittier, CA- The Cypress men's golf team competed in the 36-hole OEC Championship tournament on Monday, June 7th. The Chargers took second place at Candlewood Country Club (Par 70) and finished fourth in the Orange Empire Conference. 

The Cypress Chargers hosted the OEC Championship and had the advantage of playing on their home course for the tournament. Cypress carded the top two individual scores of the first round, Luke Bartram (71) and Bryan Urip (72). The Chargers struggled as a team in the first round shooting a combined score of 374, five shots short of second place Saddleback and six shots behind first place Mt. San Antonio. In round two, Cypress improved by five strokes (369) and earned second place in the round. Luke Bartram mirrored his round one score with a 71 and Matthew Wotherspoon matched him with a 71 of his own. Zach Iwashita carded a 74 followed by a 76 for Bryan Urip and a 77 by Dylan Marshall. The Chargers finished with a tournament record of (9-3) earning second place on the day. 

Luke Bartram led the Chargers all season and finished second in the OEC Player of the Year Rankings. Bartram finished the year with a season average of 73.4 trailing only Bryan Saw (73.2) of Mt. SAC by two strokes. Bartram was awarded first team all-conference representing the Cypress Chargers. 

As a team, Cypress finished fourth in the OEC with a record of (41-25). Mt. SAC led the way in dominant fashion with a record of (57-9) followed by Saddleback (45-21), and Orange Coast (43-23). Riverside (34-32), Victor Valley (6-60), and Mt. San Jacinto (5-61) finished behind the Chargers in fifth, sixth, and seventh respectively. The Chargers will look to retool and bounce back next season which is shaping up to be an exciting recruiting class for the Cypress golf program.
