Men's Golf Sits in 4th Place After First Three OEC Tournaments

CYPRESS, CA- The Cypress men's golf team (10-8 OEC) have gotten off to a rocky start in their first three matches of the season. Coming off a shortened, but highly successful 2020 season, the Chargers have placed in 4th, 2nd, and 5th in the first three of eleven OEC tournaments. 

4/12 Spring Valley Lake GC (Par 72)

The Chargers teed off the season at Spring Valley Lake GC, hosted by Victory Valley College. Cypress seemed to come out rusty as no player finished with a score better than 75. Freshman, Kabir Singh Chadha, led the way for Cypress while Luke Bartram and Zachary Iwashita carded a 77. Chase Boskanko of Saddleback and Theo Delehanty of Riverside shared the co-medalist honor with a score of 2-under-par 70. As a team, Cypress finished in 4th place with a score of 388. Saddleback secured their first team victory in over two seasons scoring their lowest total in eight seasons with a score of 369.

4/21 El Prado GC (Par 72)

In their second round, the Chargers stepped up their play as a team finishing in a tie for second with a score of 381. Luke Bartram led the way for Cypress with a 73 while the other four scoring Chargers all shot in the 70's. Mt. SAC dominated the round as their team shot a 370 and individual medalist Amaan Patel of the Mounties carded the lowest score (67) in the last two years of OEC play. Kataro Noda of Mt. SAC and Jordan Medlock of Riverside finished in second place both shooting an even-par 72.

4/26 Victoria Country Club (Par 72)

On Monday morning, Cypress competed in their third match of the season. The tournament, hosted by Riverside, did not treat any of the competitors well. The course played very tough and not one athlete shot under par. The Chargers had their worst showing in the last two seasons as they shot a 392 and finished in 5th place. Matthew Wotherspoon was the lone bright spot for Cypress shooting a 75, his best round of the season. Mt. SAC (377) outlasted Orange Coast (383) for their second victory in as many weeks. Jordan Medlock of RCC won the individual medalist shooting a one-over-par 73.
