Chargers Defeat Lasers in OEC Match-Up, 67-56

IRVINE, CA – The Cypress men's basketball team (15-7, 4-2 OEC) took down the Irvine Valley Lasers last night in an away match-up, 67-56. The Chargers currently hold a fourth place position in the OEC standings.

The Chargers went on an early 8-0, putting distance between themselves and the Lasers. Never far behind, the Lasers closed the gap with five minutes to play in the first half. A layup by sophomore forward, Mike Magee, would give the Chargers the lead again. A three-pointer from Kyle Small would extend that lead further before fouls by the Lasers gave Cypress some free points at the line. Cypress went into the break with a 35-28 halftime lead.

Small totaled 5 points in the first half, Magee totaled 7 points, and freshman forward, Kamron Barnes led the Chargers with 8 points.

Isaac Stell powered the Charger offense in the second half, helping extend the Chargers' lead to as many as 19 points.

Freshman guard Kamron Barnes led the Chargers on both ends of the floor. Barnes totaled 15 points and 15 rebounds, while Magee added 11 points and 8 rebounds. Stell chipped in with 13 points for Cypress.

The Chargers continue OEC play on Friday, February 1 against the Gauchos at Saddleback College. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:00 PM.
