Tostado Walk-Off HR Clinches Series Over Mt. SAC, 3-1

CYPRESS, CA- The Cypress College baseball team (7-1, 4-0 OEC) hosted Mt. San Antonio College (3-5) in their last double-header of a four-game series on Friday afternoon. The Chargers defeated the Mounties in the Friday's first matchup, 4-3, followed by an incredible walk-off win in game two on a home run from Mario Tostado to win, 5-3. 

GAME 1

Noah Karliner (1 for 1, 1 run, RBI), Matthew Oliden (1 for 2, RBI) and Andrew Sojka (1 for 1, RBI) contributed to the Chargers offense by knocking in a run each. Mt. San Antonio's Brent Cota (2 for 4, 1 run, RBI), Alex Reynozo (1 for 2, RBI), and Scott Chamberlain led the offense for the Mounties.

Mt. San Antonio's Brent Cota (2 for 4, 1 run, RBI) started the Mounties scoring run with a double in the top of the first allowing Nin Burns II to score. Karliner brought the Chargers into the fight against the Mounties after homering in the bottom of the first inning. In the bottom of the third, Oliden pinch hit an RBI single allowing Mason Pastorello to score. Later, Sojka scored for the Chargers to tie the game in the bottom of the eighth. With bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth, Sojka walked allowing Dalton Sloniger to round home plate to secure a win for the Chargers. Cypress took game three of the series, 4-3.

GAME 2

Mario Tostado (1 for 3, HR, 5 RBI) brought each of the Chargers' five runs in game four, capped off by a walk-off home run over the center field wall to clinch the series. Brent Cota (1 for 3, RBI), Manny Casillas (1 for 4, RBI), and Jason Flores (1 for 1, RBI) led the Mounties at the plate.

The second game of the afternoon brought another tight match-up between the Chargers and the Mounties. Mt. San Antonio's Brent Cota flied out to center field where Micahel Rosales scored to put the Mounties ahead 1-0 in the top of the third. Tostado got the Chargers on the scoreboard after he flied out to center field in the bottom of the fifth allowing Pu'ukani De Sa to score. The Chargers and Mounties went run for run through the bottom of the eighth until Mt. San Antonio's Jason Flores singled and Cristian Enriquez scored to push the Mounties ahead by one run, 3-2. With two on and two out in the bottom of the ninth, Tostado came up clutch for Cypress with a three-run homer to secure the series. The field erupted into cheers as the Chargers rushed to home plate to embrace Ricky Lane, Trey Seeley, and Mario Tostado to celebrate an incredible 5-3 victory.

UP NEXT: The Chargers will host Saddleback College in another four-game series next week starting Tuesday (4/22) at 2pm. Cypress will then travel to SAC to face off the Gauchos in a double-header to finish off the series on Friday (4/30) at 12pm.
