Beach Volleyball Remains Undefeated in Conference Play

MISSION VIEJO, Calif. - The Cypress College women's beach volleyball team easily brushed aside Saddleback College 5-0 on Wednesday, April 5 as they won their third straight conference matchup.

The Chargers started off strong as the No. 1 pairing of Paige Buchanan and Sam Madrid defeated Morgan Hocker and Courtney Rose in straight sets, 21-9 and 21-12 to take the first game. The No. 2 paring of Paulina Akiona and Rockelle Gholson defeated Avie Butsko and Kelli Dowell in straight sets, 21-15 and 21-16 as the Chargers took game two. The Chargers No. 3 pairing of Brianna Johnson and Emily Witz sealed the victory in game three by defeating Mandy Sides and Kelcy Schumacher in straight sets 21-17 and 21-17. The Chargers continued to dominate the Gauchos as their No. 4 pairing of Pam Fa'Alata and Sina Amasio took game four by defeating Landy Armstrong and Lauren Whitehouse in straight sets, 21-19 and 21-14. The Chargers encountered some resistance from the Gauchos in game five as the No. 5 paring of Willa Allshouse and Ateya Allen needed three sets to defeat Maraih Torres and Keara O'Brean. Allshouse and Allen took the first set 21-18, but Torres and O'Brien responded by taking the second set 21-19 to even the match at one set apiece. Allshouse and Allen then easily took the last set 15-8 as they finished off the Gauchos 5-0.

The Women's Beach Volleyball Team will return to action on Friday, April 14 at Pearce Sports Center as they take on Fullerton and Riverside with the first match set for 11:30 AM.
