Breaststrokers Dominate at Orange Empire Conference Meet

Huntington Beach, CA – The Lady Charger Swim and Dive team had a strong showing at the OEC tournament at Golden West College. Cypress finished 3rd with 360 points defeating conference rivals Fullerton, Golden West, Saddleback, and Santa Ana.

Sophomore Esther Kim (1:13.80) and freshman Kiley Kendall (1:13.87) took 1st and 2nd place in the 100-yard breaststroke, crushing Summer Sota (Fullerton) and Morgan Goodson (Orange Coast) by 3 seconds and more than a body length on the finish.  Another strong showing for the breaststrokers was freshman Lauryn Whyte who blazed to a 3rd place finish, defeating swimmers from Saddleback, Riverside, Golden West, and Fullerton.

Freshman Casey Burke finished 4th in the 500-yard freestyle and 5th in the 1650-yard freestyle, edging out sister school competitor Destiny Hernandez (Fullerton) in both races.  Sophomore Clarissa Juarez came just 0.21 seconds away from the school record for the 200-yard backstroke.

Sophomore diver Leigh Hodgson helped Cypress capture a 3rd place with a 2nd place finish on the 1-meter board. Hodgson held off some tough OEC competition, including Sarah Duke (Saddleback) and Morgan Pollard (Riverside).

The Aquatics team is looking towards their first invitational of the season at Mt. San Antonio College on February 25-27.
