Lady Chargers Break Five Team Records at OEC Championships

FULLERTON, CA - The Lady Chargers swim team smashed five team records on their way to a 3rd place finish at the OEC Championships at Fullerton College this past weekend.

Freshman Ariel Burns finished 3rd in the 100-yard butterfly (1:01), 200-yard butterfly (2:19), and 100-yard backstroke (2:22); breaking Cypress swim records in the 200-yard backstroke and 200-yard butterfly events.

It was a team effort in the breaststroke events with Kiley Kendall finishing 3rd in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:09) and 4th in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:38). Sophomore Esther Kim medaled in the 100-yard (1:11) and 200-yard breaststroke events (2:41). Sophomore Emilee Yates finished 3rd in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:37), nearly breaking her own record from last year.

After standout individual performances the Chargers came together to show off some of the best relay teams in Cypress College history. Ariel Burns (backstroke), Kiley Kendall (breaststroke), Esther Kim (butterfly), and Casey Burke (freestyle) crushed the long standing team record in the 400-yard medley relay (4:16). The 800-yard freestyle relay record was also wiped from the record books by Lauryn White, Casey Burke, Jordana Rohm, and Emilee Yates (8:50).

Earning top 16 honors within the California Community College Athletic Association are Ariel Burns, Esther Kim, Kiley Kendall, and Leigh Hodgson who will represent Cypress at the CCCAA State Championship meet May 5-7 at East Los Angeles College.
