Chargers Begin OEC Play

HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. --- Both the Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving teams fell short against Golden West and Orange Coast College over the weekend. 

Despite finishing third, the men's diving team and many individual swimmers scored well in the event for Cypress.

Issac Lee ended up scoring a 113.50 and Mason Pauu scored a 102.50 in the 1M diving event on Friday afternoon for Cypress.  Pauu ended up defeating Lee in the 3M dive with his (205.05) while Lee still finished with an impressive score of 204.45 for the Chargers.

Luis Benetiz stood out for the men's team when he finished seventh overall and first for the Chargers team in the 200 Yard Free with a respectable time of 2:07.28.

Aimee Espey continued to swim strong on the women's side after her notbale performance at the Mt. Sac Invitational last week.  Espey finished fifth out of nine swimmers in the 50 Yard Free and touched the wall with a solid time of 25.74.

Esther Kim (1:13.57) finished third in the 100 Yard Breaststroke and was two seconds away from her Orange Coast competitor who finished second with a time of 1:11.05.

Another notable performance was Nicole Wheeler's sixth place finish in the 100 Individual Medley.  Wheeler defeated three other swimmers and clocked a time of (1:13.52).

The Chargers travel to Cuesta tomorrow morning to compete in the Cuesta Invitational over the weekend. 

The next OEC event will be held on March 14 vs. Saddleback and Fullerton College.
