Two Chargers Announced to the CCCAA 2023 Hall of Fame Induction Class

CYPRESS, CA - Two exemplary former Chargers, Mark Eaton and Trevor Hoffman, were named to the California Community College Athletic Association Hall of Fame, and will be inducted later this year.

Mark Eaton helped Cypress claim the Men's Basketball State Championship title in 1980 after never previously playing basketball before. He was later recruited by UCLA and drafted by the Utah Jazz, where he played for 11 seasons. Eaton set an NBA record for most blocked shots per game and is fourth all-time in most blocked shots overall. The Utah Jazz retired his number (53) in 1996 and he stayed connected with Cypress throughout his years. He was named Alumnus of the Year for Cypress in 2004, and was also inducted in the Cypress Hall of Fame in the same year. Sadly, Mark Eaton passed away in 2021.

Trevor Hoffman started as a short stop for the Chargers and got recruited by University of Arizona where he was an All-Pac 12 first team honoree and led the team in batting averages. He was drafted by the Cincinnati Reds as a shortstop, but switched to pitching which set him on his successful trajectory. Hoffman had an extremely successful career in the MLB for 18 years, 16 of which were with the San Diego Padres. He retired with 601 career saves, he was a 7 time All-Star, led the National League in saves, and was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2018. Hoffman has also remained active with Cypress, and was named the 2013 Cypress College Man of the Year.
