HUNTINGTON BEACH, CA- The Cypress College swim team took part in their first OEC swim meet on Friday afternoon. The Chargers scored 477 points and took 5th place as a team, 4th place in women's events, and 5th place in men's events.
The women's swim team consisted of 12 competitors totaling 201 points. The women were led by Meghan Efseaff with a total of 53 points. Efseaff swam in 3 events: 100-yard fly (1st), 50-yard free (2nd), and the 100-yard back (3rd). Hanna Kemp finished with 40 points after swimming in the 200-yard breast (3rd), 100-yard breast (4th), and the 200-yard IM (9th). The women took 4th place out of 6 teams finishing above Saddleback College and Fullerton College. Riverside took 1st place with a total of 799 points.
Eleven Cypress men's swimmer competed across 37 events to take 5th place out of 6 teams on Friday. All eleven men took part in 3 events each where Zachary Sofai led the way with 46 points. Sofai earned a 2nd place finish in the 100-yard fly, 3rd place in the 50-yard free, and 5th place in the 100-yard free. Teammate Kyle Cabotaje, finished with a 2nd place of his own in the 200-yard back and totaled 44 points. Andrew Cabrera and Karl Hays each scored 41 points for Cypress while competing in the following events: Cabrera- 100-yard Free (3rd), 200-yard Fly (5th), 200-yard IM (8th). Distance swimmer Karl Hays competed in the 500-yard free (3rd), 1650-yard free (5th), and the 200-yard free (8th). The Cypress men totaled 276 points of the total 477 scored for the Chargers. Orange Coast College led the way in the men's events totaling 456 points.
UP NEXT: The Chargers next meet will be a three day event at the Cuesta Invitational at San Luis Obispo. The event will begin March 12 an run through March 14.
