Chargers Pull Away in Final Minutes to Defeat Dons

CYPRESS, CA - Cypress women's basketball (8-13, 4-3 OEC) defeated the Santa Ana Dons (13-8, 3-4 OEC), 61-51.

The Chargers were competing for the fourth seed in conference as both teams were tied 3-3 in the OEC headed into the game.

Cypress struggled to keep ahead of the Dons early on and found themselves in a five point deficit to end the first half, 31-26. However, Dorothy Schwenck sparked the team with a 3-pointer to tie the game 31-31 at the start of the third. Then, Samantha Carrillo drained a pair of three's in key moments that helped extend the Chargers lead. Schwenck with the hot hand, delivered back-to-back 3-pointers in the final minutes and Jolie Johnson brought down 14 rebounds that helped the team stay in the battle. Cypress was able to maintain their lead and outscore Santa Ana 16-9 in the fourth quarter for the victory.
