CYPRESS, CA - Cypress women's basketball (6-10, 2-0 OEC) defeated the Saddleback Bobcats (6-9, 0-2 OEC), 57-51.
The Chargers won the tip-off and Dorothy Schwenck scored the first points of the game behind the arc for Cypress. Both teams fought hard consistently, but the Chargers dominated the most throughout the quarter, leading 17-12.
Cypress continued to stay strong with their lead to end the half 29-26. However, Saddleback never gave up as they kept the score within 10 points.
Freshman, Maritza Mendoza hit a big jumper for the Chargers at the short corner in the final minute of the third quarter to keep the Chargers ahead of the Bobcats, 43-40.
In the final minutes of the game, Saddleback tried to make a late game comeback with a 6-0 run. Though, the Chargers maintained their lead and earned their second consecutive victory in the Orange Empire Conference.
