Chargers Win Final Appearance in Lady Charger Classic Tournament

CYPRESS, CA- Cypress women's basketball (6-3, 0-0 OEC) win their final game of the Lady Charger Classic to the East Los Angeles Huskies (1-8, 0-0 SCC), 74-58.

Cypress took initiative and control early on. Midway through the first quarter, the Chargers grabbed a double digit lead. Winning in the steals and rebound battle, Cypress ended the first frame leading 21-8.

In the second quarter, Cypress led with a consistent ten point lead. Rebounds and scoring was a team effort by spreading the ball around. East Los Angeles managed to outscore the Chargers in the second quarter. But by the end of the first half, the Chargers led the Huskies, 31-21.

The third frame brought much of the same play from both teams. While the Huskies remained down around double digits, Cypress seemed to have the answers. The third ended with the Chargers up, 51-39.

The home team extended their lead to a high of 20 points in the final quarter. The Huskies attempted to claw their way back into the game, but never came within 15 points for the remainder of the game. Cypress's on point passing, rebounds under the net and execution of key shots won the game.

Playing a complete game, Cypress won their first game of the weekend. The Chargers end their run in the Lady Charger Classic Tournament with a record of 1-3. Ashley Hawkins and Alexcia Alvarez were named All-Tournament in the 39th Annual Lady Charger Classic Tournament for her efforts throughout the weekend.
