Cypress Finishes Regular Season as OEC Champions to Prepare for 3C2A Playoffs

CYPRESS, CA- Charger softball (34-6, 19-2 OEC) finished the regular season atop the Orange Empire Conference as the program prepares for playoffs.

The Chargers have wrapped up their 2023 regular season play after winning 19 conference games and tallying 34 total victories. Cypress was successful in their pursuit to finish first in the OEC and it is the first time since 2019.

The team started the season off hot with five consecutive victories. To start conference play, the Chargers defeated the first nine OEC opponents they faced. Throughout their impressive year, the squad won in mercy fashion eleven times with eight of them being against conference foes.

In their 21 OEC meetings, Cypress only dropped two games to Fullerton College and Orange Coast. Besides the two losses, the Chargers season swept Santiago Canyon, Saddleback, Santa Ana, Riverside and Golden West. The team's solid pitching led to seven shutout wins in conference competition.

The Chargers pitching staff allowed the fewest runs, walks, hits and home runs in the conference. At the plate, the collective squad found themselves at the top of the OEC leaderboards. Cypress led the conference in every single offensive statistic from hits, extra base hits, home runs and RBI.

Cypress softball saw six of their players be selected to the OEC awards. Emily Rush, Jaylene Duarte, Kaitlyn Reynolds, Camryn Addimando, Lizbeth Gomez and Mikala Jacobsen all found a spot in OEC end of the season selections. Rush was awarded MVP of the entire conference as well as the entire Chargers coaching staff being named Staff of the Year.

After their impressive regular season performance, Cypress was ranked #4 in the entire state and positioned #3 in the Southern California 3C2A Regionals bracket. The Chargers are set to face off against the #14 ranked Pasadena City Lancers for the first round. This will be the first time the two teams have played each other all season. The Chargers earned home field advantage for the first round and the series will be held at Cypress College.
