Six Chargers Named to OEC All-Conference First and Second Teams

CYPRESS, CA - The Orange Empire Conference has released the 2021 All-Conference teams for women's softball. Alyssa Huerta, Emily Rush, Jordan Thompson, Paige Shafer, and Eliza Sandoval earned All-Conference honors representing Cypress College.

 

Sophomore infielder, Alyssa Huerta, and freshman pitcher, Emily Rush, were selected to the First-Team after a stellar year for the Chargers. Alyssa ranked second in RBI's after notching 25 and scored the most runs for the Chargers with 31. She ranked third with 11 stolen bases and ended the season with a batting average of .419. Alyssa was perfect at the plate four times over the course of the season. She went 3-for-3 against Santiago Canyon on 4/14 and 4/16, knocking in two runs in both games. Her most dominant game was against Mt. SAC on 5/21 after she went 4-for-4 and notched three RBI's. At the plate, Emily Rush finished the season the 17 RBIs, 21 runs, and a batting average of .403. Emily ranked number one in home runs after homering against Saddleback on 4/28 and Santa Ana on 5/5. Emily's best game was against Saddleback on 4/28 as she went 3-for-4 at bat and notched five RBIs to help the Chargers take a 16-0 victory. Emily pitched two shut-out games against Santiago Canyon on 4/14 and Santa Ana on 5/5 and struck out 36 batters over the course of the season. She finished with an ERA of 1.21 and a 6-5 record.

 

Sophomore outfielder Jordan Thompson, freshman outfielder Paige Shafer, sophomore outfielder Camryn Addimando, and sophomore pitcher Eliza Sandoval, were selected to the Second-Team after playing key roles for the Chargers this season. Jordan Thompson ranked third in runs for Cypress after scoring 28. She ranked first with 15 stolen bases and ended the season with a .364 batting average. Jordan went 3-for-4 against Santiago Canyon on 4/14 and Santa Ana on 6/3. Her best game was against Golden West on 5/28 where she went 2-for-2 and notched three RBI's. Paige Shafer scored 29 runs and stole 14 bases, ranking second in both categories. She finished the season with the fourth-best batting average on the team (.438) and notched a total of 18 RBI's. Paige was perfect at the plate twice, once against Saddleback on 4/30 when she went 3-for-3 and another game against Mt. SAC on 5/21 when she went 2-for-2. She shined at the plate against Golden West on 5/28 after going 3-for-4 and earning three RBI's. Camryn Addimando finished the season with 22 runs, 14 RBIs, 6 stolen bases, and a .370 batting average. She went 2-for-3 against Santiago Canyon on 4/14 earning two RBI's and helping the Chargers win their first game of the season, 10-4. Addimando played her best game of the season against Fullerton on 5/12 when she went 2-for-4 and earning three RBI's. Eliza Sandoval finished with 26 runs, 17 RBI's, and a .295 batting average. Eliza pitched a shutout game against Golden West during the Chargers first doubleheader against the Rustlers on 5/26. Sandoval will go down in the Chargers history books as being one of the two pitchers who threw a no-hitter in back-to-back games, the first in Chargers softball history. Her best game hitting was against Santiago Canyon on 4/16 after going 3-for-4 and earning 2 RBI's.
