3 Cypress Softball Players Sign With NAIA Programs

CYPRESS, CA - The Cypress College softball program has seen 79 student-athletes move on to play at 4 year universities in their storied history. After making their 25th appearance in the State Championship Tournament last season, the Chargers will add more to that list with 3 sophomores signing letters of intent to play for NAIA programs.

Justice Walker, Hope International University – Sophomore right fielder Justice Walker will join the Hope International University Royals of the Golden State Athletic Conference next season. Walker was a 2016 CCCFCA All-State and All-Orange Empire 1st team selection while batting .401 with a team leading 61 hits and 49 runs scored. The Huntington Beach High School alumna finished her career at Cypress 8th all-time in stolen bases with 37.

Allyson Painter, Hope International University – Sophomore shortstop Allyson Painter will also join the Hope International University Royals of the Golden State Athletic Conference next season. Painter was an outstanding defensive player for the Chargers to go along with her consistency at the plate. She batted .319 with 36 RBI and was second on the team with 8 stolen bases last season. Prior to Cypress, Painter played her freshman season at Southern Oregon University where she started 42 games. Painter will major in kinesiology while attending HIU.

Tobi Salzman, Sterling College – Sophomore third baseman Tobi Salzman will join the Sterling College Warriors (KS) of the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference next season. Salzman was a two-time All-Orange Empire Conference 1st Team selection and 2016 CCCFCA All-State selection in her two seasons with the Chargers. The Ocean View High School alumna led the Chargers with 42 RBI, 17 doubles, and 25 walks while batting .442 with 4 HR last season. Salzman will major in criminal justice while attending Sterling College.
