CYPRESS, CA — The Cypress Chargers Men's Soccer team opened their season with a hard-fought 1-1 draw against the visiting Taft College Cougars on Tuesday afternoon. The Chargers set the tone early, putting the Cougars on the defensive with relentless offensive pressure.
The first goal of the season for the Chargers came from freshman Danyal Showe. The play began with a well-placed corner kick by Frank Troya, who centered the ball into the box. Jhonkarlo Vega was in position for the opportunity but saw his shot blocked by the Cougar defense. A fellow Charger teammate recovered the deflection and found Showe, who struck the ball into the net to give Cypress a 1-0 lead heading into halftime.
In the second half, Taft College came out with renewed energy, pushing aggressively on the pitch. Their efforts paid off as they scored the equalizer, making it 1-1. Despite multiple opportunities for both teams to break the deadlock, neither side could convert, and the game ended in a draw.
The Chargers showed promise in their season opener, and they will look to build on this performance as the season progresses.
