CYPRESS, Calif. --- The Cypress Chargers were looking to grab their third home victory in a row on Thursday evening against the visiting Warriors of El Camino College.
Shawn Hansen was able to line up for a penalty kick right outside of the box for the Lancers within the first three minutes of the game. Nobody expected a goal so early in the contest, but Hansen was able to hit the top left corner, and give the Chargers a quick (1-0) lead.
With a 1-0 lead, Cypress continued to press the ball forward and put a lot of pressure on the El Camino defense. El Camino made a run down field that was able to set up a corner kick. As Cypress went to clear the corner kick out of the box, the ball placement was misjudged and the Chargers committed an own goal against themselves.
Both teams fought hard on defense in the second half of the contest. Cypress had some close opportunities towards the end of the game, but they weren't able to execute down the stretch. The game ended in a (1-1) tie and left Cypress with a (2-3-2) record so far on the season.
The Chargers go on the road to face Santa Ana College on Tue. Oct. 1, at 3:00 pm.
