Men's Soccer earns their first vicotry of the season after defeating Cuyamaca in a last second thriller...
CYPRESS, Calif. --- After losing (3-1) to Southwestern last Tuesday, the Chargers had it on their minds to get a victory today against the Cuyamaca Coyotes at Ray Haas field.
Cypress and Cuyamaca both got off to a slow start in the first half, holding each other scoreless at (0-0) heading to break.
As the game progressed in the second half, the Chargers began to fire more shots on goal. The confidence level and persistency of the Cypress offense had increased dramatically and it was obvious to any fan. Despite many close shots on goal, the Chargers still found themselves in a scoreless game with little time left on the clock.
With a few minutes to go, the Chargers had an opportunity to score off a penatly shot. The shot went wide right and left Cypress in frustration. As the clock stopped and went into extra time, Shawn Hansen decided to take matters into his own hands. The Freshman forward from Cypress High School made a juke and was able to punch one into the back of the onion bag with just a minute or so left in the game.
The Chargers celebrated their first victory of the season and held off the Coyotes, (1-0).
Cypress looks to carry the momentum into their next game when they face College of the Desert at home, Tuesday, Sept. 24 at 1:00 pm.
