Cypress Suffers First Loss in Conference

CYPRESS, CA - Cypress men's basketball (6-8, 1-1 OEC) falls to the Orange Coast Pirates (8-4, 2-0 OEC), 78-64.

CYPRESS, CA - Cypress men's basketball (6-8, 1-1 OEC) falls to the Orange Coast Pirates (8-4, 2-0 OEC), 78-64.

Cypress hosted Orange Coast College for their first home match in the Orange Empire Conference on Thursday evening. The defensive pressure was intense on both ends of the court as neither team scored within the first two minutes of the game. The score stayed within 10 points until the final minute of the first half for the Pirates, 42-30.

At the start of the second half, Mark Onyejekwe stole the ball at the top of the key from the Pirates and was quickly fouled. Then, Allen Wright found Gabriel Navarro behind the arch to drain the 3-point shot. However, the Chargers were unable to create momentum on the offensive end. The Pirates kept their lead and finished with a 78-64 victory.

Cypress stat leaders: Luke Washington - 12 points and 6 rebounds and Allen Wright - 3 assists and 6 rebounds.
