No. 3 Chargers Rally to Defeat No. 2 El Camino, 10-7

CYPRESS, CA – The Cypress College baseball team continued their winning streak in impressive fashion at home on Tuesday afternoon. The No. 3 Chargers gave up a 6-run lead to No. 2 El Camino, before clutching up to regain the lead, and eventually win the game, 10-7.

Freshman Daniel Foret (W, 1-0) earned his first win of the season, along with his first save, in 2.1 innings of relief. Foret racked up five strikeouts, while allowing no runs and just three hits. El Camino's Ricky Ramos (L, 0-1) received his first loss of the season in 0.2 innings of relief. Ramos gave up what proved to be the game winning 3RBI single for Cypress.

Sophomores Dominic Campeau (2-for-3, 4RBI) and Aaron Lizarraga (2-for-5, 2RBI) continued to light up the scoreboard for the high octane Cypress offense.

The Chargers jumped out to a 7-1 lead through four innings, before the Warriors clawed their way back inning by inning.

The Cypress bullpen struggled following 5.0 strong innings from sophomore starter Connor McCollum, who gave up just two runs, both unearned. Timely hitting for the Warriors, paired with defensive miscues by the Chargers, led to El Camino tying the game after a four-run seventh inning, 7-7.

The Chargers offense answered the call with three runs of their own in the bottom of the seventh. Aaron Simpson (0-for-1, 4BB) led off the inning with a walk, before advancing to second on an Aaron Halpert groundout (1-for-4, RBI), and then stealing third base. Greg Lamb (0-for-2, RBI) then reached on another walk, before stealing second base. After Gilly Rodriguez (0-for-4) reached on fielder's choice, resulting in Greg Lamb being called out at third, Jesse Lopez (1-for-3) was hit by a pitch to load the bases with two out. Campeau, the CCCAA RBI leader, drilled a bases clearing single to give Cypress a 10-7 lead. Foret pitched two scoreless innings to ensure the victory for Cypress.

Cypress College baseball will resume non-conference action at home against Glendale College on Thursday at 2:00 p.m.
