Men's Swim & Dive End Season at CCCAA State Championships

MONTEREY PARK, CA - Mark Wyse and Arthur Lawrence represented Cypress College at the CCCAA State Championship meet at East Los Angeles College.

Freshman Mark Wyse was out to break the 50-yard freestyle school record (21.24 Doug Forbes) which had eluded him at the Orange Empire Conference Championships two weeks prior.  In the prelims Wyse bested his Conference Championship time (21.43) but narrowly missed his goal of breaking the team record by .01 seconds.  Mark did establish his personal best time of 21.25 seconds, placing him 16th in the state of California. Wyse also had the 100-yard freestyle event lined up.  During the OEC Championships Wyse broke the 40-year-old team record; swimming an astonishing 46.19. Wyse finished 14th in the 100-yard freestyle ranking him one of the top swimmers in the state of California. "I'm looking forward to next year because now we have a fire burning in us to swim faster," said Wyse.

With the season coming to an end the Cypress College Swim & Dive Program is already looking toward the future. "Our Charger swimmers and divers rose to the occasion this season with several team records broken and many personal bests accomplished, setting the table for a strong team next season," said Head Coach Larry Beidler.
