Men's Soccer Defender Dakota Nering Accepts Scholarship to Hope International University

CYPRESS, CA - Cypress College men's soccer sophomore Dakota Nering accepted a scholarship offer from NAIA Hope International University.

Dakota Nering was a leading force for the defensive line for the Chargers over three seasons. Dakota redshirted his first season at Cypress in 2018 before moving into a starting role under Coach Rus in the 2019 season. During the first game of the 2019 season, Nering assisted on the third goal of the game versus Victor Valley to record his name on the stat sheet. In the Chargers' second game of the season, Nering scored the Chargers' second goal against Glendale and helped lead Cypress to a shutout victory, 3-1. He played all 21 games and helped lead Cypress to their (10-5-6) record on the season. The Charger defense was the strongest in the OEC giving up a league-low 22 goals in the 2019-2020 season. This past season, Nering continued to excel in a series of scrimmages against Golden West, Orange Coast, Santiago Canyon, and Bethesda University. They also had 7 shutouts and gave up a league-low 1.02 goals per game this season. Outside of soccer, Dakota Nering is a Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) representative for the men's soccer team. Nering is excited to bring his defensive intensity to the HIU Royals in the 2021 season and is looking forward to playing with past teammates again in the future.
