Chargers Cruise to 3-0 Victory

CYPRESS, CA – The Cypress College men's soccer team (2-1) defeated College of the Canyons (0-2) 3-0 at home on Friday.

The Chargers have yet to allow a goal on their home field this season as they have managed to dominate the ball in each of their two home games thus far. Despite only outshooting the Cougars by a slim margin, the Chargers managed to find more high quality shots and converted on their chances.

Freshman Jorge Perez nearly scored in the opening seconds of the game for Cypress after stealing an errant pass intended for the Cougars keeper. However, Cristian Arriaga came up with the save to keep the game tied 0-0.

Cypress Head Coach Mike Stauber made some early substitutions as both teams were looking to be the aggressor. Shortly after checking in, freshman Jose Morales found the back of the net for his first goal of the season to give Cypress a 1-0 lead. Right before the end of the first half sophomore Sanson Lopez sent a pass into the box and Christian Supancic converted a header to give Cypress a 2-0 lead at halftime.

Supancic added another goal to his tally following the ejection of Canyons midfielder Arman Tagavi early in the second half. The Chargers went on to earn their second straight shutout victory, 3-0.

Men's soccer will return to action on Tuesday, September 6 on the road against Palomar College at 3:00pm.
