Cypress Pulls Away from Riverside City in Close Battle, 59-50

CYPRESS, CA - Cypress men's basketball (9-12, 4-5 OEC) defeated the Riverside City Tigers (6-15, 3-6 OEC), 59-50.

Cypress swept the Riverside City Tigers in the Orange Empire Conference on Don Johnson court friday evening. Ja'Shawn Chisel led the Chargers from behind the arc to start the game and the team carried momentum on the offensive end. However, the Tigers did not let the home team pull a large lead. Riverside kept Cypress within five points throughout majority of the first half until Peyton Guerrero set up Mark Onyejekwe for the three that gave the home team their largest lead of the half (25-16).

The Chargers entered the second half ahead of the Tigers, 31-23. Then, the Chargers fell into a shooting dry spell and the Tigers went on a 7-0 run to take the lead 34-33. Guerrero quickly answered with a three-point play and a layup from Allen Wright to take back the lead, 38-34. Riverside City kept close, but the Chargers maintained the lead for the remainder of the game and secured the nine-point victory.

Cypress stat leaders: Higgy Katoa - 5 steals & Allen Wright - 15 points
