Stephenson Receives Charger of The Week (Oct.19-25)

Becca Stephenson of women's water polo was awarded Charger of the Week (Oct. 19 – 25) after a string of outstanding performances in the goal. The sophomore goalie helped the team go 4-1 this past week, including an undefeated tournament run (4-0) at The 18th Annual Battle at the Beach.

In the Chargers tough 12-3 loss against Riverside (Oct. 21), Stephenson almost had a 1:1 saves to goal ratio, surrendering 12 goals while making 10 saves. The Chargers goalie then put up unbelievable numbers in front of the net at the Battle at the Beach tournament at Long Beach City College. Over the course of the four tournament games, Stephenson compiled 58 saves to 23 goals, producing close to a phenomenal 3-1 saves to goals ratio. She made a total 68 saves and 35 goals during the week, earning roughly a 2 to 1 saves to goal ratio.

The Yorba Linda High School Alumna played a key role in Cypress College's comeback victory against Saddleback in the second match of the tournament. After losing to the Gauchos 7-5 on Sept. 23, the Chargers were down 8-2 at the half. But Stephenson's 8 game-changing saves in the final three minutes of regulation time and 2 blocks in overtime pushed the Chargers to an 11-10 victory in overtime.

The Chargers will compete in the OEC tournament on Thursday, November 5 at Riverside. They will play their opening match at 9 am. Opponent is to be announced.
