CYPRESS, CA - Cypress women's volleyball (17-5, 9-4 OEC) won the Golden West Rustlers (10-8, 6-7 OEC) at home in four sets (25-15, 25-15, 25-18, 25-20).
The Chargers struggled early in the match to find a rhythm as they trailed the Rustlers throughout the entire first set. Golden West led the match 1-0 with a score of 25-15.
In the second set, Kaelyn Arnold lit up the Chargers with a service ace that put the team in the lead at the beginning of the set. Freshman, Zoe Ziegler made her presence well known with a hammer kill right down the middle of the visiting teams side, 15-11. The Chargers managed to continue pulling away from the Rustlers and tied up the match, 1-1 (25-15).
The match was drawn one a piece heading into the third set and the Chargers were in an 8-point deficit. The Rustlers battled to stay ahead of Cypress, however the team did not back down. As the Chargers slowly started to make a comeback, it was Shayna Martinez who resurrected the team with back-to-back kills to tie the set, 15-15. Then, the front line for the Chargers were on fire with multiple wall blocks to kills that gave Cypress the win, 25-18.
The Chargers had quickly stacked five points before the Rustlers earned their first point on the scoreboard (5-0). Cypress volleyball showed up with the intentions to closeout the match as they led the entire fourth set. The team earned their ninth conference victory (25-20) against the Golden West Rustlers, 3-1.
UP NEXT: The Chargers will return to Don Johnson Court for their final match of the regular season on Wednesday, November 8th. The match is set to begin at 6PM.
