CYPRESS, CA - Cypress women's soccer is prepared to start conference play with their matchup against Saddleback on Tuesday, September 26th.
The Chargers began the season with four consecutive victories with wins coming from up and down the state. On the road for the teams first four games, Cypress shutout Southwestern with three goals contributed from six different players. The Chargers would go on to net three goals in their second win over Evergreen Valley and another three in their victory against Hartnell.
In a long road trip to Northern California, the squad scored seven goals in a shutout win versus Cañada College and two against San Francisco City. The team's impressive winning streak had come to an end when they hosted Mt. Sac for their first loss of the season. In their last game before conference competition, Cypress ended with a draw against Long Beach City.
The program is coming off a similar start to the prior 2022-23 season, as the Chargers won four games and tied one before conference play began. Last season, Cypress would go on to be 9-2-3 in the Orange Empire Conference while finishing 14-3-4 overall. Cypress competed in the 3C2A playoff bracket where they bypassed the first round and defeated Antelope Valley. Their season ended in the third round to Saddleback in a 1-0 loss from a late game goal.
With a healthy mix of newcomers and returning members, Cypress has played consistently well under Head Coach Erick Hurtarte. With a freshman goalkeeper in net, Sofia Lopez, the Chargers have kept their opponents off the scoreboard. With a third place finish in 2022, Cypress looks to be near the top of the conference standings once again. The squad will start OEC play against a Bobcats team that ended their season in the third round last year.
UP NEXT: Cypress will host Saddleback for their first OEC faceoff on Tuesday, September 26th. Kickoff will be at 3pm.
