Cristian Rus has been the Head Coach of the Cypress College Men’s Soccer Program since 2019.

In his first season, Coach Rus led the Chargers to their first playoff appearance in over a decade. Cypress finished the season with a record of 10-5-6 and saw three of their players move on to a 4-year university earning an athletic scholarship. 

Cristian comes from Fullerton College, where he spent two seasons as an assistant coach for the womens soccer program. He helped lead the Hornets to the CCCAA Playoffs for the first time in 14 years (2017 and 2018) and to a 2nd place finish in Orange Empire Conference (2018).

In the 2022 season, Coach Rus led Men’s Soccer to a 3C2A postseason appearance and hosted a playoff match for the first time in Cypress Men’s Soccer program history.

Rus has also spent the last 14 years coaching with the Fullerton Rangers, where he successfully led the boy's and girl's programs to two National Cup Championships, qualified for the US Youth National Cup Championships, and transitioned numerous players on to play for the US National Team and four-year universities.

As a player, Rus began his playing career at the Youth Soccer Academy in Bistrita, Romania. He played at the academy level until the age of 17, when he came to the United States.  He continued his passion for soccer as a player at Loara High School, before moving on to play at Fullerton College and eventually BIOLA University. Rus went on to play semi-pro soccer in the PDL for the La Mirada Seahorses.

Coach Rus has a USSF A Senior Coaching License and a National Youth Coaching License. 

Coach Rus earned a Bachelor’s of Science in Physical Education and a Master’s Degree in US Education.  He currently resides in La Mirada with his wife and three children.
