Men's Basketball Finishes 2nd at San Francisco Tournament

CYPRESS, CA – After a slow start to the season, the Cypress College men's basketball team (2-5) finished 2nd at the San Francisco City Tournament this past weekend. The Chargers picked up wins over Sequoias and Diablo Valley College before losing to tournament host San Francisco City in the championship game.

Cypress earned their first win of the season in the tournament opener against No. 15 Sequoias. O'Shae Williams led the way for the Chargers, finishing with 16 points on 5-of-12 shooting to go along with 9 rebounds and 3 steals off the bench. David Murrell (5-of-8) added 14 points in the Chargers' 66-52 victory.

The Chargers followed up their victory over Sequoias with a tough fought 74-66 overtime win over Diablo Valley College in the tournament semi-final. All-Tournament selection, Chez Lister, did it all for the Chargers off the bench. Lister got it done on both ends of the floor, finishing with 14 points, 9 rebounds, 2 steals, and 2 blocks. Williams continued to attack the basket for Cypress, finishing with a team-high 17 points, with 9 of his points coming at the foul line.

Coach Alhadeff and the Chargers saw their run come to an end against No. 2 San Francisco City in Sunday's championship game, falling to the Rams 50-68. Cypress was unable to get the same production from their bench and had one of their worst shooting performances of the season (27.1%).

Men's basketball will finally get an opportunity to play at home as they host the 2nd Annual Don Johnson Classic December 8th - 10th. The Chargers enter the tournament as defending champions and will open against LA Harbor on Thursday at 6:00 p.m.
