
Chargers Battle Hard in Conference Matches at Rosie's Dog Beach
Chargers Show Grit in Conference Battles at the Beach
LONG BEACH, CA – The Cypress College Women's Beach Volleyball team hosted a pair of Orange Empire Conference matchups at Rosie's Dog Beach, facing off against Golden West and Orange Coast. Despite a valiant effort, the Chargers fell in both contests, moving to a 2-2 OEC record and 3-5 overall on the season.
In the opening match against Golden West, Cypress came up just short, falling 3-2 to the Rustlers. The Chargers' 1's and 2's pairs secured victories as the 1's pair, Zoe Ziegler and Keilyn Flores, battled through a three-set thriller, clinching the win with a decisive 15-11 finish in the final set. The 2's pair, Hailey Church and Hannah Higuera, dominated their opening set 21-8 and secured the match in the second set, 21-18.
Against Orange Coast, the Chargers fell 4-1, with the lone victory coming from the 2's pair of Church and Higuera, who continued their strong play by defeating their opponents in straight sets. The 3's pair, Kaitlyn Emma Casino and Audrey Perez, fought hard in a tightly contested first set, 22-20, before dropping the second, 17-21, and falling in the decisive third set, 7-15.
UP NEXT: The Chargers look to bounce back as they travel to Saddleback College for another conference showdown against the host Bobcats and the Fullerton Hornets. The first match is set for 10 a.m., followed by a noon start for the second match.
