CYPRESS, CA – The Cypress College baseball program has seen over 350 student-athletes move on to play at four-year universities in its storied history, including 20 who have made Major League appearances. The Chargers are continuing the tradition of moving players on to the next level under third year Head Coach Anthony Hutting.
For the third consecutive year, the Chargers are sending 15 members of the baseball team on to play at four-year schools next season, 11 of which will play for NCAA Division I schools.
Adrian Chaidez, UCLA
The 2019 Orange Empire Conference First Team selection had a big sophomore season as a starting pitcher for the Chargers. He made a significant jump in velocity following his freshman campaign, where he had no starts and pitched 24.2 innings with a 4.01 ERA. Chaidez recorded seven wins and one loss in 10 starts during the 2019 season, while collecting 70 strikeouts with a 3.48 ERA.
Jesse Lopez, Long Beach State
The 2019 CCCBCA All-State and Orange Empire Conference First Team selection was an impact player in his two seasons with the Chargers. The center fielder led the Chargers in all of the major hitting categories (Min. 75 at-bats), with a .401 AVG, 63 hits, 41 RBI, and six home runs last season. Lopez moved into the top-10 career ranks for Cypress College baseball in runs scored (93) and doubles (30).
Reid Sebby, Oregon State
The 2019 Orange Empire Conference Second Team selection had a big sophomore season as a starting pitcher for the Chargers. Sebby got the start in the 12 games on the mound this season for the Chargers, recording seven wins and three losses. He struck out 49 batters with a 3.96 ERA.
Eric Bigani, UNLV
The 2019 Orange Empire Conference Second Team selection was an x-factor during both seasons for the Chargers, appearing in 75 games at catcher. Bigani led the team with 314 putouts last season, while batting for a .278 AVG with 37 RBI and two home runs.
Mariano Ricciardi, Dayton
The 2019 Orange Empire Conference First Team selection made an immediate impact as a freshman infielder last season. Ricciardi played in 40 games at second base, recording a .965 fielding percentage. At the plate this season, Ricciardi hit for a .324 AVG and totaled 19 RBI with 44 hits.
Jack Gardner, Morehead State
Gardner had two great seasons as the Chargers' primary DH. He hit for .329 AVG with 81 hits, 48 RBI, and seven home runs for his career. Gardner was consistent over the two-year span, but managed to make a jump in all major hitting categories his sophomore season.
Matt Kirk, Toledo
Another impact freshman made his mark at the plate and in the outfield for the Chargers last season. Kirk hit for .282 AVG with 31 hits and 17 RBI in 110 at-bats.
Cristian Lopez, UIC
Lopez began his college career with the Chargers as a catcher in 2017, before switching to a pitcher mid-season. He tossed 4.2 innings with a 1.93 ERA out of the bullpen his freshman season. Lopez decided to redshirt in 2018 to improve as a pitcher and it paid off in 2019. Lopez appeared in 18 games, earning three wins and two losses with a team-high three saves. The sophomore collected 58 strikeouts with a 4.99 ERA in 52.1 innings of work.
Cory Moore, UIC
Moore appeared in 38 games as a DH and first basemen for the Chargers in 2019. He hit for .246 AVG with 16 RBI and two homers.
Trevor Thompson, UMASS Lowell
Thompson appeared in 15 games for the Chargers last season, earning one loss and two saves in 17.1 innings. He notched 28 strikeouts with a 4.15 ERA.
Austin Spinney, Houston Baptist
The lefty started five games on the mound in each of his two seasons with the Chargers, ending his career with eight wins, four losses, and one save in 10 starts. Spinney tossed 65.2 innings with 63 strikeouts and a 4.93 ERA.
Aaron Halpert, Cal State Monterey
Halpert began his career with the Chargers as a grey shirt in 2017, before making his freshman debut in 2018. He appeared in 35 games his freshman season, batting for a .263 AVG with 20 hits and 11 RBI. The sophomore made another jump in 2019, hitting .354 with 15 RBI and one home run.
Eric Chavarria, Lewis-Clark State
The 2019 Orange Empire Conference Second Team selection was the Chargers' go-to arm last season. After hitting for .200 AVG as an infielder his freshman year, Chavarria made the switch to pitcher last season, where he led the Chargers with eight wins and two saves in 13 starts. He fanned 59 batters with a 4.91 ERA in 73.1 innings on the year.
Isaiah Parra, Lewis-Clark State
The 2019 Orange Empire Conference Second Team selection was the second most effective offensive player for the Chargers last season. Parra hit for .354 AVG with 58 hits, 37 RBI, and one home run in his one season at Cypress. He appeared in 43 games as an outfielder and first baseman.
Trevor Windisch, Cal State Monterey
Windisch made the most of his opportunities with the Chargers last season, hitting for .340 AVG with seven RBI and one home run in 50 at-bats.
