Bio
Anthony Hutting is entering his 10th season as Head Coach of the Cypress College baseball program. Hutting has compiled an impressive overall record of 228-124-3 at the helm.
In the 2025 season, Hutting led the Chargers to a remarkable 39-12 overall record, capturing the program’s first Orange Empire Conference title since 2009 and making their first State Tournament appearance since 2016.
Under Hutting’s leadership, Cypress has reached the playoffs in all but one season and has made four Super Regional appearances in the 3C2A playoffs.
He was named Head Coach in 2017 after serving two seasons (2015–2016) as an Assistant Coach and Recruiting Coordinator. During that time, he helped guide the Chargers to a State Final Four appearance in 2016.
Under Hutting’s leadership from 2017-2025, the Chargers have had over a 100 student-athletes transfer to four-year universities to continue their athletic and academic careers. In addition to his success moving players on to the four-year level, Hutting has also helped eight players to the professional ranks. Andrew Quezada was selected in the 20th round of the 2017 MLB Draft by the Tampa Bay Rays. He opted to attend Cal State Fullerton and was selected in the 7th round of the 2018 MLB Draft by the Colorado Rockies after his junior season. Shaine McNeely, a Charger from 2017-2018, was selected in the 16th round of the MLB Draft by the New York Yankees out of Hope International University. Most recently, Coby Morales was selected by the New York Yankees in the 18th round of the 2023 MLB Draft. The other Chargers selected in Hutting’s tenure as head coach have been Adrian Chaidez (Houston Astros), Matt Schmidt (New York Yankees), Troy Taylor (Seattle Mariners), Mariano Ricciardi (Oakland Athletics), Nick Bautista (Texas Rangers), and Julian Aguiar (Cincinnati Reds). The Chargers have produced 35 All-Orange Empire Conference selections under Hutting’s tenure. In addition, two have been Pacific Association All-American First Team selections, pitcher, Andrew Quezada and catcher, Dominic Campeau. Quezada was also the 2017 Orange Empire Conference Pitcher of the Year and Campeau was the 2018 Orange Empire Conference Player of the Year.
Prior to beginning his tenure as head coach at Cypress, Hutting coached three seasons (2014-2016) in the Alaska Baseball League, both for the Alaska Goldpanners in Fairbanks and Anchorage Bucs. The Chargers head coach helped the Goldpanners earn the ABL Championship in 2014 and the Bucs to the ABL title in 2015. During his time in Alaska, he coached 20 MLB Draft picks, who of which, Taylor Walls and Taylor Jones, have reached the Major League level.
Hutting, graduate of Tesoro High School in 2009, was an All-South Coast League selection in 2007, 2008, and 2009 and an All-CIF selection in his senior season in 2009. Hutting still holds the school record for the most consecutive games with a hit at 31 games. He was selected in the 38th round of the 2009 Major League Baseball Draft by the Texas Rangers, but chose instead to play college baseball at Cal State Fullerton. In his four-year collegiate career with the Titans, Hutting was a member of four straight Big West Championship teams (2010-2013) and was a 2nd Team All-Big West selection in 2012.
Hutting graduated with a B.A. in Communications from Cal State Fullerton in 2013 and earned his Master’s degree in Physical Education from Azusa Pacific University in 2015. He currently resides in Lake Forest, CA with his wife, Deidre, and two kids. His parents are Greg and Melissa, and he has one brother, Eric, who played collegiately at Long Beach State is currently an assistant baseball coach at Washington State University. He is also the cousin of former Major League Baseball veterans, Aaron Rowand and James Shields.
