Cypress College (9-5) will open up conference play at home against rival Fullerton College (5-3) this Friday, October 2 at 6:00 PM. The Chargers are coming off a gutsy home opener against Mt. Sac where they won 3-2 thanks to strong play from their freshman Raquel Medina and Rockelle Gholson. Although Cypress boasts a better record than Fullerton College, the Hornets are coming off a three-game win streak without losing a single set in that period.

Sophomore Madison May has stepped up as the Chargers ace this season and leads the team as the go-to hitting option with 194 kills and 22 service aces. However, the sophomore captain will not be shouldering the burden alone this Friday. Raquel Medina will need to continue her strong play alongside May. Medina has shown glimpses of brilliance this season, including an all-around 14 kills, 12 digs, and 2 block assists game against Taft College this past Saturday.

Fullerton College will be an intriguing matchup this season. Sophomore setter Alex Winfield will be the X-factor entering this week as she is the focal point of the Hornets offense. Despite being a setter, Winfield leads the team with 62 kills and is second behind sophomore setter Carly Bergen (129) in assists (107). Bergen and Winfield will keep the Chargers defense on its toes as the Hornets look to mix up their attack pattern every serve.

Cypress' hard-hitting talent and Fullerton's creativity will prove to be an offensive showcase, making this matchup the Game of the week.
