Dao & Laubie Named Co-Chargers of the Week (Apr. 18-24)

After climbing their way to the Round of 16 in the Ojai State Tournament, Chargers pair Diana Dao and Kalie Laubie were awarded Co-Charger of the Week (April 18-24). The freshman pair were the only lady Chargers participating in the tournament, entering the doubles tournament as the No. 9 seed.

In a 64-team bracket, the freshman pair won their first match over Rio Hondo's Delia Hidalgo and Nicole Robbins in two sets (6-1, 6-1). In a seemingly tight matchup against No. 10 Kaitlynn Mayfield and Monica Poole from Modesto, Dao and Laubie won in two sets (6-2 and 6-1). However, the pair's tournament run ended after facing No. 2 Diana Barcelata and Joelle Huelse from Cañada. Although Dao and Laubie took the first set 6-3, they fell 3-6 and 5-10, ending their tournament run in the round of 16.

The leading doubles pair for Cypress College had several strong showings during the regular season, having beaten the top doubles pair from Santa Barbara, Riverside, and San Diego. Diana Dao played varsity tennis for Bolsa Grande High School before coming to Cypress while Kalie Laubie earned 1st-Team All League her senior year at Brea Olinda High School.
