Hawks Defeat Chargers

CYPRESS, Calif. ---  The Chargers had some de ja vu on Friday afternoon when the Santiago Canyon Hawks defeated Cypress once again by a score of 2-1 for the second time this season.

Maddison Smith drove in Desiree Rascon for the last Santiago Canyon run of the game, giving Santiago the 2-1 advantage in the top of the seventh inning.

The Chargers failed to get a hit in the bottom of the seventh and fell short on their home field for the first time this season.

Despite the loss, Monique Martinez stepped up for Cypress when she drove in Mylee Macahilig for the first run of the game.  Martinez ended the day going 2 for 3 with the only RBI for the Lady Chargers.

Desiree Lopez only allowed four hits in the loss and pitched all seven innings for the Chargers.  Lopez now has a (12-6) record thus far in 2014.

Cypress will travel to Huntington Beach, Calif. on Wednesday, March 26, to take on the Golden West Rustlers in another OEC matchup.

The Chargers return home the following day to host Saddleback College on March 27.  First pitch is set for 3:00 PM.
