Success in Bakersfield

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. ---  The Cypress Chargers took care of business over the weekend at the Bakersfield Tournament defeating Southwestern (16-7), Canyons (7-2), and Bakersfield (19-11) after their game one loss vs. Mt. San Antonio (3-4).

After being down 1-6 in the beggining of their most recent game vs. Bakersfield, Cypress went on a tear, scoring eight runs in top of the second inning on Sunday.

The Lady Chargers then went on to score four more in the third and five more in both the fourth and fifth inning, ending the game early with a 19-11 victory.  The 19 runs scored also happened to be the most runs scored so far for Cypress in the 2014 season.

Makia Hastings, Alejandra Guillen, and Chelsee Herron all hit home runs in the contest.  Guillen and Herron also drove in four runs a piece for the Chargers in their eight point rout over the Bakersfield Renegades.

Kathy Villa also had a notable performance going 3 for 4 with two runs in the contest while Makia Hastings recorded her fifth stolen base on the year.

Cypress will look to go 10-1 overall and hopefully continue their undefeated streak in conference play as they travel to take on Santiago Canyon on Wednesday, February 26.

Their next home game is set for Friday, February 28 vs. Golden West College with first pitch at 2:00 PM.
