Spencer's Lead the Way

CHINO HILLS, Calif. --- The Chargers finished fourth in the AM round of the OEC Championships with a combined score of 379 on Monday morning.  Unfortunately, Riverside College managed to enter the clubhouse with a 378 to close out the very competitive morning session.

Spencer Wilde led Cypress in the first round, shooting a 73 which happened to be a one under par on the par 74 course.  Spencer Saunders shot even par (74), while Connor Whitcomb and Steven Canales both shot three over (77) to close out the top three scorers in the AM round.

Cypress finished fourth again in the PM round but managed to improve their score by 10 total strokes compared to the morning round of play.  The Chargers entered the clubhouse with a 369 and finished fourth place overall in the OEC standings. 

Wilde led the Charger men once again in the evening round, shooting one under par (71) on the par 72 evening course.  Saunders and Whitcomb had the second best scores for Cypress which happened to be two over (74). 

Orange Coast College captured the OEC crown and defeated Santiago Canyon by only one victory.  The Pirates closed out the season going (5-0) in the final round of play yesterday to clinch the title in dramatic fassion.

Saunders and Wilde both ended up qualifying for the CCCAA Men's Golf Southern Regional Championships.  They will represent the Cypress Chargers on Monday, May 5 at the StoneRidge Country Club course in Poway.
