Chargers Swing Past Wolverines, 12-1

Cypress, Ca – The Cypress Chargers baseball team (0-0 OEC, 2-1) defeat the San Bernardino Valley Wolverines, 12-1. 

Sophomore lefty, Austin Spinney (W, 1-0), gets his first start and win for the Chargers. Spinney pitched four innings and recorded 6 strikeouts only allowing 3 hits and no runs scored. The Wolverines pitcher, Thomas Baltazar (L, 0-1), received the start and the loss. Baltazar pitched 2.1 innings allowing 5 hits and 6 earned runs.

Aaron Halpert (0-for-2, 1RBI) gets on first with a walk. A single from Trevor Jones (2-for-2) advances Halpert to second. An error from the Wolverines advances both, Halpert and Jones. Jesse Lopez (1-for-4, 1RBI) steps up to the plate and makes contact with the ball, scoring Halpert and giving Cypress a 1-0 lead. A big hit to left center from Eric Bigani (2-for-3, 5RBI) scores two more runs and a single to right field from Matt Kirk (1-for-3, 1RBI) brings in Bigani to tally another. The Chargers end the first inning up by four runs to zero. Chargers earn two more runs in the third and one in the fifth giving the Chargers a 7-0 lead entering the seventh inning.

Right-handed pitcher, Colton Bulger, enters the game. A single by the Wolverines and an error by the Chargers earns the Wolverines their first run. Bulger would get the Chargers out of the inning with only one run scored.  The Chargers get the seventh inning started with a walk from Isaiah Stewart (0-for-3, 1RBI). Dawson Gilbert (0-for-1) also walks and advances Stewart to second. A single to right center field from Cory Moore (1-for-2, 1RBI) scores Stewart. Chargers now lead, 8-1. Three more runs for the Chargers would score, giving them a 12-1 lead over the Wolverines. The eighth and ninth inning would be scoreless for both teams. The Chargers earn their second victory of the season, 12-1.

The Chargers next game is at College of the Canyons as they take on the Roadrunners, Thursday, January 31st at 6:00 PM.
