Head Baseball Coach Scott Pickler Captures his 4th Cape Cod League Title

SOUTH YARMOUTH, Massachusetts --- The Cypress College Athletics program had another reason to celebrate over the weekend when legendary Head Baseball Coach Scott Pickler led his Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox to another Cape Cod Baseball League title on Friday afternoon.

Coach Pickler's squad upset a number of teams in the playoffs before eventually taking down the number two seeded Falmouth Commodores in two straight games in a best of three championship series.

Pickler has now led the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox to six Cape Cod League Championship appearances in the highly respectable league and has managed to capture four titles in the past 10 seasons, (2004, 2006, 2007, and 2014).

The Cape Cod Baseball League began back in 1885 and continues to be one of the most premier baseball leagues in the nation.  The league features some of the nations most elite and competitive Division I baseball players from all around the country.   Most recently, Kevin Duchene from the University of Illinois was named pitcher of the week after his incredible 12-strikeout performance last week for the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox.  Duchene allowed only one hit through seven innings for the YD Red Sox, launching Coach Pickler's team into the next round of the post season.

Athletes from powerhouse baseball programs such as UCLA, LSU, Tennessee, Missouri, UC Santa Barbara and Cal State Fullerton among others, competed for the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox this season.

Cypress College Assistant Coach Brian Resnick also coached for the YD Red Sox this summer alongside Coach Pickler.

Scott Pickler will look to continue his success as he heads into his 30th season as the head coach for the Cypress Chargers baseball program.   Pickler has led Cypress to five State Championships, seven Orange Empire Conference Championships and has helped over 200 student-athletes receive scholarships.

Over 120 of his former players have been selected in the Major League draft.  18 of those former Chargers have been brought up to the majors, including eight who are currently active.
