Citrus College avenged an earlier season loss to Cypress College, grabbing a 9-6 victory in the first round of the SoCal Regional Championship Tournament.

The ninth-seeded Owls improve to 18-11 on the year and advance to take on top-seeded Santa Barbara City College on Friday at 3:00 p.m. The Chargers end their season at 11-12.

Teghan Miller led the Owls with five goals in the game, followed by Gabriella Terry's pair of goals. Sey Currie and Alyssa Woody also scored for Citrus.

Kate Carlyle made seven saves in the cage for the Owls to preserve the win.

Citrus found itself trailing 1-0 early in the first but had a big response. Miller scored four of her goals in a span of four minutes to put the Owls in control after the first quarter. Tamara Holstrom assisted the first two goals with Carlyle also picking up an assist on the goal just seven seconds before the period ended.

The Chargers cut the scoring spree with a goal in the second, but Terry rattled in a goal with less than a minute before halftime to keep some distance for the Owls, 5-2.

Cypress came out of the break looking to battle back in and pulled within one, 5-4, but Currie capitalized off a Woody assist about halfway through the third to keep the Owls in front.

Once again, the Chargers tried to make a move and cut the margin to one point, 6-5, but a power-play goal from Terry and another goal from Miller – once again off a Carlyle longball – gave the Owls the cushion they needed to secure the victory. Woody put the icing on the cake with a goal in the final two seconds of action.
