Irvine Valley's women's soccer team suffered its first loss of the season on Tuesday, falling in an Orange Empire Conference match at Cypress, 4-0.
Cypress led, 1-0, in the first half after a goal by Laura Najera and then added three goals in the second half, including two by Najera.
The Lasers' record slipped to 6-1-1 overall and 3-1-0 in conference.
IVC is still off to the best start in program history.
And Irvine Valley is currently tied for second place in conference with Golden West with 3-1-0 records.
Santiago Canyon leads at 3-0-1.
Saddleback and Orange Coast are tied for fourth at 2-1-2.
Irvine Valley is led in goals by sophomore Yasmin Hart with three. She scored the game-winner against Norco last Friday on the road. It was her second game-winner of the year.
IVC's defense has been strong throughout the season.
Irvine Valley has only given up eight goals in eight matches and that includes the four on Tuesday to Cypress.
The Lasers will next take on Saddleback in a conference contest at home on Friday.
Like Irvine Valley, Saddleback is off to its best start to a season ever.
The Gauchos have a mark of 6-1-3 overall.
Saddleback is unbeaten in its last three matches.
It defeated Santa Ana, 2-0, and Fullerton, 4-2, and then tied Orange Coast on Tuesday, 1-1.
Saddleback has out-scored opponents, 26-9, this year and the team has scored three or more goals in five contests.
Danyelle Allen has done much of the damage.
She had all four goals in the team's 4-2 win over Fullerton and she has 16 goals on the year, which leads the state. Allen has already eclipsed the Saddleback record for most goals in a season.
