Women's volleyball team downs Cypress in four on the road

The Irvine Valley women's volleyball team had its set win streak snapped right off the bat Friday night in an Orange Empire Conference match at Cypress.

But the Lasers, ranked No. 1 in the state, still earned a hard-fought victory to stay unbeaten on the year.

IVC had won 41 sets in a row going into Friday night's match.

Cypress won the first set, but the Lasers came back for a 23-25, 25-21, 25-21, 25-22 victory.

Irvine Valley improved its record to 22-0 overall and 15-0 in conference.

Irvine Valley got 20 kills and 20 digs from sophomore outside hitter Lea Kruse in the win over Cypress.

Sophomore outside hitter Gabriela Griego added 14 kills, sophomore middle blocker Kristin Austin had 13 kills and hit .591 and sophomore middle blocker Alma Entesari finished with six kills, hit .556 and had four blocks.

Sophomore libero Anna Unke chipped in 12 digs and sophomore setter Truth Hafey ran the offense with 54 assists and had nine digs and three block assists.

The Lasers finish up the regular season next Wednesday at Saddleback.
