Tigers Put Exclamation Point on Extra Innings Win
After a close game went into extra innings, No. 5-ranked Riverside City College exploded for eight runs to give No. 7-ranked Cypress College no chance of battling back in a 12-4 Tiger victory.
The Tigers improve to 18-8 overall and 5-2 in the Orange Empire Conference, while the Chargers slip to 19-7 on the year, 5-2 in conference.
RCC finished with 17 hits, led by Marc DiCarlo, Jr. (3-for-5), Darin Osterloh (3-for-5), and Bubba Heidler (3-for-6). Danny Inzunza went 2-for-6, while Logan Clear (1-for-5), Parker Sobiesiak (1-for-4), Luke Medure (1-for-1), Ian Nguyen (1-for-5), Alex Gamez (1-for-4) and Malakai Lopez (1-for-4) also had hits for the Tigers.
Erik Rodriguez set the groundwork for the win, tossing six strikeouts on the mound. Julian Herrera picked up the win after shutting out the Chargers in 1.2 innings of action.
After Cypress evened the score at 4-4 in the bottom of the ninth, Riverside proceeded to load up the bases with no outs to start the top of the 10th. Heidler then ripped a triple to score all three runners before Clear walked aboard and stole second. Medure drove Heidler in with a base hit before Cypress made a pitching change.
The Tigers didn't let up, however, and loaded the bases once more before DiCarlo drilled a bases-clearing double to make it 11-4 in favor of the visitors. DiCarlo then capped the scoring off an RBI single from Osterloh.
RCC and Cypress continue the series in Riverside on Thursday at 2 p.m.
