Pirates rally to top Chargers in OEC opener

CYPRESS -- The Orange Coast College men's soccer team opened Orange Empire Conference play with a solid 15-12 road win over host Cypress College on Wednesday.

Both teams went back and forth throughout most of the first half, with the Chargers taking a 7-6 advantage into the third quarter. There, the Pirates came to life with five straight goals, setting up a 7-2 third-quarter goal advantage and a 13-9 OCC lead heading into the final quarter.

There, both teams traded goals the rest of the way, allowing Coast to hang on for the crucial win.

Ryan O'Donovan led the Coast offense with five goals, while Carmelo Bangs added four. Jacob Muller had three goals and three assists, while in goal, Roman Christenot went the distance and notched 12 saves to preserve the win.

Coast will return to action this weekend at the Mt. San Antonio College Tournament on Friday and Saturday.
